In the "official statement" concerning the Antiquities of the Illuminati (AI) Project, we have narrated the history, for the most part, as to how We came to write This Material.
It may be useful to consult, and We shall be updating It sometime in the future.
There are those who may look over Our Work, barely scratching the surface, and say that We offer nothing important. Or, they may gripe about the way Our Pages view on their machines. After viewing Them on every Windows operating system from Windows 95 to Windows XP Professional, They all view the same to us, i.e., superior to everybody else. Therefore, get a better computer, or glasses, or whatever it takes to view Them as They Are meant to be viewed! You were warned!
Otherwise, annihilate your ego!
What about those who find this material quaint and uninteresting? Well, this material cannot be confined to "sound-bites". And, while it may bore those with short attention spans, it is not written for you. It is written for Us.

At first, a number of the elements in this story have been conjectures, which we could not easily prove, or find validation for, without access to materials not easily available to a person living in a back-water area. With or without Internet access, it makes no difference. There are, in fact, some things which may never be "proven".
Yet - we continue to prove ourselves. Even personal observations we have made have a tendency to show up elsewhere - in the past, that is. In places we've had no access to, even.

How do we introduce such a phenomenal work as this truly is, without devoting time to relaying information gathered from our Magical Records of the formative years of the Project? It cannot be done otherwise. Oh, sure, there are those who might say that it can, but in our case, it won't be. The entire process of researching, compiling, writing, editing, publishing to the web - this precious document, has been a Magical Act. Therefore, when people want to know where we get off, where we're coming from, what we mean by this stuff, this is what we must do: present vignettes from the past, during the years that this Work was still being written. Oh, true, most of Book III is still unwritten, and it is going to be much longer before it is complete! Probably as many years as it has taken for the first two books to be published online - five to six years - it shall take to compile and write. In a sense, though the first two books are Key and can stand by themselves, and the Third is the invisible synthesis of the two.
Going back to an earlier entry, around the time of the 1996 Republican Convention at San Diego, we notice an important event that occurred, which may have caused the writing to commence:
"Did you know that when 9 states got blacked out a couple of weeks ago, at that very moment, I was deciphering p. 16 of Chapter III of Liber AL vel Legis - the page with the Line, Circle, Cross & Grid? There are things in that book which correspond to an edition of [effaced in the original] which I purchased (and managed to hang on to) - this copy once belonging to A. C. himself. I kid you not.
"Funny thing, though - we didn't get our power knocked out; I just cursed the monentary cut in power & it came back on & stayed on. But everyone else got to suffer. [The Soviet Space Station MIR had passed over just a couple of nights previous to it. Query: could Microwave devices trigger such an event, that collapses several power grids at once? Operation Hot August Nights, perhaps.]
"Then I proceeded to receive (not merely write) a document, 43 pages long, after being unable to write more than a couple pages at a time for nearly 5 years…….
"Speaks of Past, Present and Future. Fr.'. U.'. must get a copy of it for it is filled with material he will want to have. VITAL INFORMATION."
So, what then began to manifest? Well, for us it was akin to the Exegesis experience that P. K. Dick underwent. Not the same material, nor the same amount of material. Yet - imagine, in this day and age, writing 550 pages by hand, double-sided ruled paper, in a mere 6 months! No typewriters, no computers, none of that. Just pens and paper. Add to that notes written on the side, like the unpublished "Fourth Epistle of I .'. D .'. to the Eurekans" [aka 4th Eurekans], which was a mini-book in its own right. Here is an interesting stream of consciousness rant, of sorts, that this reporter had, at the time this material was about to leave the distiller (i.e., the mind):
"Tribe of Benjamin - Brothers of the GIFT - descendants of the Nephilim, sons of Belial worshippers of Belili (Beltis who is also Ishtar - Inanna)… Mary of the Tribe of Benjamin - Joseph of the Tribe of Judah … yet see legend of Yeshu ben Pandiru (Panther)… ET IN ARCADIA EGO. . . The Stone the Builders Rejected? The Tribe of Benjamin. "One day (c. 901 BCE) the Descendants of Benjamin left Palestine… 2000 years later Godfrey VI founded the Order of SION…" The Stone the Builders Rejected? Jesus… The Widow's Son? Hiram? Hiram is Horus. Horus who died for 3 days and was resurrected by Isis; Osiris the Father…. Yeshu ben Pandiru the Incarnation of Horus awaited by the Egyptian Priests… The Living One… The Widow? Isis… Mary Magdalene… The Benjaminites leave Palestine and end up in the Peloponnese - the Pelasgians… Then they form Arcadia… then push west. South of France. The real Jesus which the stories speak of is Horus. Also, prophesied during the 26th Dynasty by Ankh-f-n-Khonsu the Scribe. The 26th Dynasty was the last truly Egyptian dynasty. Ended 525 BCE, by our reckoning. The Lion with the Key in its mouth and the figures 525… Perhaps a clue the Royal Secret. The Bloodline plus the Incarnation = the Living One. J = Judah = Jachin; B = Benjamin - Boaz; M = ? = Mabon. Judah = David. Benjamin = Jonathan. ET IN ARCADIA EGO ION DEI…

This Introduction is more like a guide to the Book as a whole. That is, what we are trying to accomplish is to outline our goals, our intention, our Will to be attained in the production and accomplishment of this Work.
Some of this will be straight-forward, some might refer to previously written statements, such as Dossier 3, from Dossier Series I: Antiquities of the Illuminati, which can be viewed presently on the "About" page at the Antiquities of the Illuminati website.
Also, we may produce some unpublished materials, written during the compilation phase of the project, when we were forming the Thesis.
So, then, for this Introductory work, we shall introduce you to the Antiquities of the Illuminati as a Project. But first, we shall present some of our own Autobiography. True, we often refer to this work as our Auto-theography, much like Crowley referred to his Confessions as an Autohagiography, but we don't want to get the wrong ideas across… We do know humility, once in a geological epoch at least! Also, we shall present a narrative on our influences and predecessors in this Work, as we truly are carriers of this all-important Historical Tradition, as historian as well as practitioner and so on.
What does it matter, to the typical person? Probably nothing at all. But to those who derive information, learning, interest, inspiration, and so forth, from this sort of thing, then it is (or should be!) glaringly obvious. Our own life experiences being related here are done so not merely to lord it over everybody else, like so many autobiographical Thelemites tend to do. No, we do not present armchair gematria to prove that we took ecstasy and had a vision that told us we were the long-lost child of the prophet. Not everybody can be born with the knowledge. Ahem!
But, let's face it. It is clear to me from the correspondence I have exchanged with people over the years, and with accounts I have read of other contemporaries' experiences during the same time period that my experiences took place, and with the experiences related by members of the Antiquities of the Illuminati Group (on Yahoo Groups)….. that while my experiences are unique to me, they are not unique, not even during the given time period. I am writing about them, for posterity. Because I would have liked to have known that there were others going through the same communications (or similar ones, really, since all the communications are unique because of the relationship between communicator and communicant!) - at the same period in time. Were we all products of some mind control project, or is there something more to it? If it is something more, then what is IT? I tend to think that this is something more than mind control ops. There are things higher than that, after all!
Funny how people in governments, esp. the kind we find ourselves existing in, claim a belief in God, Jesus, and the whole shebang, but when it comes right down to it, they really are a sorry lot, aren't they? And yes, we like the French, and France, and no, we do not agree that if a person likes the French or France, that they must be labelled as a terrist. Fuck that noise forever!
So, then, the autobiographical material serves as a point of reference, to give you an idea of where we came from, how this material came through to us, how we got an interest in this material, and then, if this is a story that sounds like your own, write us. We would like to create a tally. We know that we are legion, and it will take a number of us to practically apply the implications of the research, will it not?
This will be a developing section, much like the rest of the book, as our entire autobiography is not going to be written in a matter of two weeks time!
Following this, we need to give a brief narrative of the Story, proper. The Story that The Brethren of the GIFT is an elaboration of, in three Books.
Also, as History is a narration of the Time Track, this relates to Prophecy. There are some ideas concerning this coming out in recent times, and we have formed our own take on the mechanics of prophecy independently of these, but we find ourselves in agreement with certain researchers whose work we did not know until years after we formed our own ideas, based on actual experience. There is a functional aspect to Prophecy that is a bit like Time Travel. Those who know this, I need not say any more. But there are those who think that a simple bit of armchair Gematria will make them Prophets, or Children of Prophets or other distractionary noise like that, and we must inform the world that this is all a mistake. There is a Prophetic Tradition, and one need not be a Zionist Jew looking for Monica Lewinsky's name in Holy Scripture in order to grok it!
Following this, we give a brief summary of the contents of the work.
Finally, a concluding essay, time and spirit permitting, on the Political Applications of Religious Belief. Really, this needs to be published as soon as possible, since we are in an election year (2004), and this is all-important. Why this candidate wasn't made in Texas, he's from Massachussetts!
At the very end, some of the conventions we employ in our work. Now to the early stories concerning our involvement with the Superieurs Inconnus!
The Antiquities of the Illuminati project goes back, as I have stated on the "About" page, to 1992 c.e. Then, I began acquiring the research materials, and compiling the data together in the form of skeletal timelines. Later, in 1996, I started writing, when I found an interesting item in Pike's Book of the Words, concerning the word Ahiman. What came out was the suggestion that the Nephilim did survive the Deluge(s) after all. And, possibly, that Poussin was wise to the subject. About 9 months later, I started writing the first draft of what would become The Brethren of the GIFT. From April to November of 1997 c.e., the manuscript grew larger and larger, every day, until I had well over 500 pages, handwritten-double-sided ruled notebook paper. I continued assembling the data, and in 1998 c.e., when I got this first computer, I began the key entry work, with Part One of Book Two. This is why Qadosh saw publication before Book One, once we started publishing segments of it in 2000 c.e. to the Internet. As the Antiquities of the Illuminati website grew, I added the AI List, at Yahoo Groups (then eGroups). As a result I have met some interesting people, a few of which are responsible for assisting in the never ending work of this Project. This is a real Project, not merely a home page. A lot of research is required, and a lot of production goes into the site on a regular basis. For those who think that the email list is what we are harping for donations for, such is not the case. This may be a "labor of love" but it is still a labor, and since we are publishing our own materials, in order to maintain our editorial control over the project, we do not feel the need to apologize for the fact that we would like to see more people who derive information, inspiration, enlightenment from this project to remember us with donations from time to time.
This work is, for us, a continuation of the works of our predecessors from the past. We have precious few contemporaries who are producing this sort of thing.
What do we mean when we say "our Predecessors?"
That's not an easy question to answer point blank, since there is a long tradition of this sort of work.
First off, we would be inclined to include ISIS Unveiled by H. P. Blavatsky, the writings of Albert Pike, Hargrave Jennings, G. R. S. Mead, Gerald Massey, Godfrey Higgins, even Arthur Edward Waite. We should also include the long line of French Scholars, whose travels in Syria brought much of the past back to the west: Rene Dussaud, Catafago, Defremery, Ernest Renan. Some of these we shall get to when we present Qadosh, Part Five.
Also, W. F. Albright, whose "Yahweh and the Gods of Canaan" really inspired us, and guided us along the way. These are not merely influences, these are predecessors. J. M. Allegro, too, is one such predecessor, whose "The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Christian Myth" can find vindication in the present work.
In the popular field, the authors of Holy Blood, Holy Grail, and its sequels, sort of paved the way for this type of inquiry.
Our goal was to join the research of Zecharia Sitchin to the story picked up in Holy Blood, Holy Grail. Once we came on the scene, as far as the internet is concerned, we realize that we weren't necessarily the first to come up with the idea of joining these threads together, but….. the first isn't always the best, is it?
In a lot of ways, we see ourself as carrying on the writing style of W. Raymond Drake, whose "Gods and Spacemen" series was quite a contribution. So were the works of Pauwels and Bergier.
We first became interested in writing a history series back in 1985 after we'd started reading the Earth Chronicles series. It was very interesting, back then, when Sitchin was actually writing interesting material. After "When Time Began" the output seems too Zionistic.
Elaine Pagels' The Gnostic Gospels is another crucial work, which we have extended upon, particularly in Qadosh Part Four (ORMUS and the Grail Chalice).
Raphael Patai's The Hebrew Goddess is another one to add to the list, not only of predecessors but of influences.
While our work is not written as literature or as fiction, there are various authors of letters that we consider to be those who have gone before. These include Brion Gysin, William S. Burroughs, Aldous Leonard Huxley, Timothy Leary, Robert Anton Wilson, Raymond Chandler.
The Valis Trilogy of Philip K Dick is definitely a predecessor to the experiences I have had, and a connection of sorts, too, since I was living in the area that P K Dick was living in at the time: Orange County, California, and I can state that there was definitely a change in my life at that same exact time, and numerous out of body experiences. Years later I would be contacted by the "Gnostic Computer" at the State Street Inn in Santa Barbara.
The methods of Gysin and Burroughs, particularly, have been amplified upon in the work we are doing here.
Contemporaries along the lines of this historical work include Andrew Collins, whose "From the Ashes of Angels" has been good source material. Allen H. Greenfield, whose concision is an art to be emulated and assimilated, for sure. His writings on the Asiatic Brethren and the Frankists I found not long after I had first stumbled on the connection between the two groups. Though Gershom Scholem had first written on this subject in the 70s, Allen is the first Western Esoteric historian to take up the subject. Also, his interest in certain areas of Borderland Science bring me to another contemporary: that of the Borderland Sciences Research Foundation. Since we have written of it in several other places, we shall refrain here.
Also, probably the closest the concept of Contemporary applies is to Joe Matheny, whose book Ong's Hat The Beginning (co-written with Peter Moon), I still say mirrors things going on locally in California. On my own, by myself in the city, in the sticks, I have had certain parallel experiences that every time I find another it doesn't cease to amaze me.
I cannot close this without mentioning Doctor Hyatt, who should really be classed as an Influence. Yet he is also a contemporary. Not yet a predecessor! And the Doctor is on a roll these days. There are plenty of writings to be coming out on the Mad Prophet blog, that we did before during and alongside the writing of Brethren of the GIFT, that demonstrate to us that we can say that we have been doing this Toxic Magick for quite some time, writing it down, as well as practicing what we preach. In fact, going back to the 80s and early 90s.
Another contemporary would be S Jason Black, whose excellent work, Pacts With the Devil, is one of those few books that actually makes damned good sense.
We shall omit those we do not regard as our own, as contemporaries, such as Herr Koenig of Switzerland, whose work consists of insidious half-truths designed to fuck with peoples' minds and to keep Thelemites divided.
For this reason, also, we cannot and shall never recognize the UR-OTO or those who find it worth propagandizing.
The divide and conquer strategy of these groups (including one with which I was associated for two years) shall produce nothing of lasting greatness. Indeed, in the time that I have been producing the Antiquities of the Illuminati website, these groups seem to have kept the same material up all this time (except for the purloined OTO books and rituals).
Antiquities of the Illuminati is not merely a home-page website like those ugly websites that originate in the Netherlands.
Although all of the above named authors, researchers, scholars can be termed influences, they also constitute a grouping of persons whose work (collectively) we are continuing.
As far as influences, Antinomian Gnosis would be the best way of describing the particular philosophical orientation of ours. Today, we call it being an Extreme Individual, and we are proud to declare our association with the Extreme Individual Institute, formed in 2003 by Dr. Christopher S. Hyatt.
Though we have always been inclined toward the unknown, the absurd, the bizarre, and the noir elements of society, the earliest indicator was the Three Investigators Series. "Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators" it was called, featuring 3 kids who had a secret hideout in a junkyard somewhere near the coast. They had the free use of a gold Rolls Royce after winning a day's use of it, in a contest. That's what got them associated with Hitch. Their cases, of course, involved the supernatural, and the impressionable mind of a precocious child grooved with that.
After having fiction and imaginary things discouraged during a sentence at a private school for a number of years, our imagination was directed into the designing of industrial products, particularly the cars we wanted to see on the road. This may not seem politically correct to the anti-car people who read this, but the best cars are rolling art. Those designed by Pininfarina, Ital Design, et cetera. And it's no surprise that most of the ideas I came up with on the sketch pads (which I still have, including the mock brochures and sales books), have been produced, by several manufacturers around the world. Nobody did get the design for the Pegasus though.
Perhaps designing a Time Machine would have been more fitting.
The idea of interactive entertainment and communication was something I was hip to in the seventies, while my fellow students were hip to dating games and sports. Well I was hip to Formula One, but they took the International cars off the tracks, in the US and replaced them with the gawd-awful Indy cars, that required less ambitious track designs. No more Ferraris.
When we got interested in pursuing the work that led to this writing, it was after a long time of searching. Seeking out the next higher state of consciousness without chemicals that weren't available too easily to one who wasn't yet in the loop.
So, hanging in the underground, avant-garde, and other cliques in the early to mid 80s in L. A., and this, mind you, was around certain people who had known / known of Ira Einhorn. The bail-skipout was just a couple years old, and he still had people interested in his case in 83-84. So, in those days, Philip Glass still hadn't done the music for a Lexus commercial, and was accustomed to getting panned by the L. A. Times. The Contemporary Music scene was, in retrospect, a bit stuffy, but the minimalist and cut-up approaches employed, by composers such as Carl Stone, as Daniel Lentz, as Paul Drescher, as Terry Riley, John Adams, Charles Amirkhanian, and others, were an early influence on me, particularly since I listen to music when I write. Or I try to. Later on it would include other (still at the time) cutting edge genres like Industrial (Second-Wave). The Second Wave, still included some of the original first wave (SPK, Cabaret Voltaire, etc), but also the various splits of Throbbing Gristle, such as Psychic TV and Chris and Cosey. Oh can't forget Coil. These were clearinghouses for information, particularly in the periodical created by V. Vale, "RE-Search", which we picked up regularly for a few years. The Industrial Culture Issue is rather interesting.
Out of all of these Industrial groups, though, the one that inspired us and influenced us the most was Cabaret Voltaire. There are those who would think that this credit should have gone to Psychic TV since I was a member of TOPY. Nopy. There was a definite Magical influence, but that is something that we shall get to in another place sometime.
The cut-up techniques applied in music, sound collages, in video, by this group, really went a long way towards the deconstruction of Pop Music as we knew it, and as we knew it in the mid 80s, it was quite bad. Of course nothing since has improved at all, but…..
Deeper influences came via the writings and recordings of William S. Burroughs. I had learned of Brion Gysin before I knew anything about Burroughs, since I had purchased a copy of Brian Jones presents the Pipes of Pan at Joujouka, complete with the Brion Gysin insert, in the Japanese Pressing. I had learned about Brion Gysin when I read a book in 1981 on the Rolling Stones. The talk of Magick reminded me of a recent acquisition: the Avon edition of the Necronomicon, which found its way into my hands in August of 1981.
So, then, the next Magical influence beyond Burroughs and Gysin, would be, naturally, Aleister Crowley. Yet, I didn't start picking up Crowley materials until 1988-9, after reading Robert Anton Wilson's Cosmic Trigger (First Edition Pocket Books Paperback). That is the one book that set me on the Path, and this is not uncommon. I had read the Illuminatus trilogy a year prior (June 87), at the time I was writing The Drug Called DEATH (an unpublished novel), and LIFE begins @ 8:15 (an unpublished collection of "Machine Prose"). My interest in 23s (after the fashion that Burroughs picked them up everywhere, and they showed up on PTV albums and art work)… caught the attention of a fellow student at the JC, who lent me a copy of the Trilogy. I was sold on RAW ever since.
And, since Cabaret Voltaire's form of "Acid House" (i.e., unacknowledged, since PTV stole the show and gave it a name) - went big….. it led to a lot of various Techno bands, genres, et cetera. In the late 90s came the Ibiza mixes, and when we started seeing those, and hearing them as well, we were hooked, esp. the Sasha Ibiza Mix on Global Underground (GU013). Also, the Euphoria collections, and the Space collections. This year we flamed hard to the Hard House mixes of Lisa Lashes, even though there are some out there who think we are passé or nuts for liking her mixes. Well, what can we say? I mean, WHAT CAN WE SAY?????
After I'd gotten involved in the study of the Work, it became clear that there were definite influences and affinities with people like Jakob Frank, Shabbetai Tzevi, Adam Weishaupt, Cagliostro, Papus, even; Madame Blavatsky and Pike especially when I hurl invective.
It is true: the bad boys of the work, the Extreme Individuals of the Past, have been a great influence, not merely as people to parrot, but as early versions of my own life. Most of the armchair experts who sit at the internet from rise and shine to nighty night…. who want to be regarded as special, can invoke the past, can create themselves IF THEY WILL, but cannot point at me as a megalomaniac.
I am constantly creating and re-creating myself. It is the process. (Or, as the former Genesis P Orridge would say, "Thee Pro-cesss!")
It is a necessary evolutionary step.
Now, with all the writing, philosophical, musical, performance art influences also comes Film. Film directors that have influenced me: Luis Buñuel, Federico Fellini, Pasolini, Hitchcock, Larry Cohen, Penelope Spheeris (for Suburbia), Scorsese, De Palma (Body Double especially), John Waters (for Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, Desperate Living, and Mondo Trasho), Richard Dmytryk, Fritz Lang, Billy Wilder (his final film Buddy Buddy, was filmed in Riverside California when I lived there). The main element in film that has interested me is the same element that I have found interesting with Burroughs' use of cutups. Space-Time shifts. Non-linearity. While history implies linearity, if one looks at time as the grooves on the record, then one can do a dj mix with history and do some skipping.
Indeed the the combination of the Gysin and Burroughs Magick of Cutups in writing, in art, on tape, the non-linearity of Buñuel's film style, the cultural deconstruction of the Industrial culture, applied practically to the task of historical presentation, is a real powderkeg. It has far-reaching implications. It means being able to see thru the lies conjured up by house-dick historians with the tape recorder!

To provide a good capsule definition of the "premise" or "thesis" of Antiquities of the Illuminati, we shall run quotations from a couple of our earliest narratives that distill the essential features of it into a smaller package.
The first is an unwritten in our journal series from 1996-7 (Grey Book Volume I, Number Two).

"The Art finally reached us, in the 20th Century (though all the intervening centuries saw its practitioners) in the work and teachings of Aleister Crowley and the orders he administrated.

"Also, the Gnostic Mass is the Pure Eucharist, and we dare any who says that Christian communion effects the transsubstantiation of the elements to partake of the wine and cakes in Our Ritual.
"In more recent times, a direct descendant of the ancient Barbelo Gnostics can be seen in the Temple of Psychick Youth, love 'em or hate 'em. This is what TOPY was. Unfortunately, it was allowed to degenerate and dissolve, but those of us who directed it in the early days were in essence doing what our ancestors did 2,000 years ago and more.
"Also, this tradition was proclaimed by I.'. D.'. when the Secret Chiefs unveiled unto him the Ordo S.'. S.'. in 1991 c.e. and proclaimed him a Prophet of AL (The Book, not the person). This most assuredly took place and the ARARITA Arrangement was received as a result of the Mystic Communion of the Oil, the Wine, the Bread, the Spirit, the Water, and the Blood - the Mystic Communion in which the Magician-Priest is anointed and the Dur.An.Ki., or Bond-Heaven-Earth bestowed upon him. It is not in a condition of mere vanity or dangerous stupidity that these words are uttered. We stand by our experiences and over time (the test which proves all things, really) have proved this event.

This may seem heavy-handed, or deluded, or more of the ego-maniacal ranting that members of the Antiquities of the Illuminati email list are familiar with. Yet. it still stands after having been penned well over seven years ago. Now we are about to finish offering for online consumption, five years in the making, what we originally wrote by hand in a mere six months' time!

It is with great pleasure that I pen this communique. I was indeed gladdened to receive your phone call, at a time when I have been cut off from the affairs of men for nearly 1.5 years. At a time when the TRADITION is threatened with extinction. I suppose it is not as foreboding as all that in reality, yet my intuitions tell me otherwise.
My principal objective is to gether together the entire History in such a manner as my predecessors in the Art have ne'er before done and present not only biographies, but maps, illustrations, schools, sects, societies, connections both real and conjectural, in an encyclopaedic form, showing the common linkages over the many millennia, since the decline and fall of our Ancestral Sects: the Priesthoods of Babylon, Egypt, and India. For there is a long and continuous thread passing through history's course, from said decline in the 6th century BCE (the Time of Ankh-f-n-Khonsu, by the way), through the Classical Greek Schools, Near-Eastern and Mediterranean Mystery Schools, Cults, and Sects - to the Monastic communities like the Therapeuts of Egypt, the Essenes of Qumran, the Yezidis and Mandaeans and Sabaeans of Syria and Iraq, the Gymnosophists of India… down to the Gnostics, who began as an offshoot of both the Alexandrian Schools and the Essene Community, the earliest of which was one Dositheus, which is Greek for Jonathan. He is the "Jesus that didn't get nailed" as Bob Dobbs put it. And he was no fuckin' Christian either! Through him it passed to Simon Magus, his disciple, and on down to Valentinus, whose followers set up several schools which survived as late as the Moslem period.
The Valentinian schools, in turn, along with their more secular counterparts and some time opponents, the Neo Platonists, passed on their learning, via Syriac schools and translators, to the Arabs, who developed the Tradition, developed Chemistry, and Medicine and Astronomy, and passed it on to the Jews in Spain.
These Jews, some "secular humanists" like Moses Maimonides and his followers in the tradition, some Qabalistic, like Isaac the "Blind" and his followers, transmitted the current from Spain to the southern part of France, and from there across the entire European continent. This was picked up in its turn by such noted Europeans as Nicholas Flamel, alchemist and grand master of the Prieure de Sion, scholars and translators like Marsilio Ficino, and Natural Magicians like Pico della Mirandola.
The Renaissance by this time was in full flower. The Tradition makes its way to Southern Germany, where Johann Reuchlin, Cornelius Agrippa, Ulrich von Hutten, pass their wares off to the more learned among the Europeans, including one of my ancestors, Johann Stoffler von Justingen (who got a crater on the moon named after him) - then to the RC period and … John Dee, et al…
We end up in England, behind the founding of the Freemasons and behind the Revolutionary Enlightenment which was pushed to a great degree by our Brother Benjamin Franklin in America, and then the German Period again in the 18th Century with von Hund, Schrepfer, St. Germain, Weishaupt (St. Adam), Cagliostro, Casanova, etc.
This in turn fizzled out, to be passed on to Francis Barrett and his sponsors, to inspire Fred Hockley, F. G. Irwin, R. W. Little, Wm. H. White, and Kenneth MacKenzie. Oh, Yarker too. This led to the Societas Rosicruciana In Anglia (SRIA). The SRIA led to the Golden Dawn. Also, Yarker, Westcott, Reuss, and Papus' Martinist Circles led to the OTO. These circles were all connected to the Fratres Lucis, or the Hermetic Brotherhood of Light. Some say this movement was founded by Pascal Beverly Randolph, associated with R. Swinburne Clymer's American Rosicrucian Group, which [may have] included Lincoln, and other prominent US Theosophists and Occultists, but I suspect that the Fratres Lucis go back much earlier on the continent. Pike and Blavatsky [may have been connected to] H B of L.
This all led eventually to Crowley and his orders. The confederation of rites in 1917 was conferred on Crowley by among others, Yarker and influenced by Papus and Reuss. This is more than it seems, since Yarker was more connected in the Masonic world of the time [much like any seasoned Operative during the Cold War]...

And IT is the Invisible Order, the Unknown Superiors and Secret Chiefs of all the various Systems of folklore and belief and practice, handed down to US.
125 years ago or so, it may have been the Interior Circle of the H B of L. 50 years ago, it may have been associated with the Inner Circle of the Borderland Sciences. Before that, the Secret Chiefs of Crowley, before that and after that, and so on, all the same.
However - this elusive little group has no permanent home or resting place on Planet Earth. Tracing its whereabouts and succession across space-time is not easy. It requires the non-linear methods described above. Also, it is necessary to develop those slagheaps of conjecture.
Similarly, while we like to go on about the Consciousness movement, the Beatles and the Hippies - that is a dead end, a blind of sorts, yet we shall not give up the Secret in this Introduction.
All we need to say here: You either KNOW, or you DON'T KNOW.
