Unsigned Article. Epicurean History. From the Epicurean History website, see the link given below. The interested reader should read the entire article, it is well worth it, however, the material related to the Mandaeans is to be found in the section entitled "Epicureanism and the Judeans."
Webster, Nesta H. Secret Societies and Subversive Movements. (Christian Book Club of America, no publishing data, no date, no copyright.) It is extremely useful to the historical scholar who can read past the rhetoric, for the historical details are actually quite accurate, even if the editorial content is nauseating.
The most extensive information we found was at the Mandaean World site. Its several articles include the following:
1. The Sabians of the Koran. This is a truly remarkable essay.
2. The Melchi Figures. (On the Melchizedek Tradition, which further connects the Mandaeans with the Sabaeans, since the Melchizedek Priesthood was located on the Red Sea Coastline of Southern Arabia, south of Mecca.)
3. The Pre-Christian Nasoraeans. This is an excellent article tracing the current, from the Essenes to the Elkesaites/Sampsaeans / Ebionites, to the Naassenes, to the Mandaeans.
4. Mandaean Symbols: The Drabša. This is the banner that is present in Mandaean ritual. Notice on one of the pages, the lamb with the red cross on it. It is reminiscent of the Templars. Also, Lamaistic Buddhism employs prayer flags. Could there be an influence on Lamaism, which came from Central Asia first, before it went to Tibet?
5. Mandaean Ritual Clothing: The Rasta. The Rasta is the Ritual Garment the Mandaean Priests wear.
6. Sabians, Sabaeans, or Sabeans. This article may have superseded the article listed above (#1), in which case, it is a shame, as the first article was better. This article, though, deals with the Americanization of the term, and its usage by the Bahai Faith. Of course, it is true, it has some good pictures of Harran, and some coverage of Babylonian traditions.

Epicurean History -- this article on the history of Epicureanism has a section on the antagonism between Jewish and other Palestinian sects on the one hand, and Hellenism (in particular, Epicureanism) on the other. We are probably to be categorized among the Epicureans, at least after we read this article.
